Appendix 5
The Template for a National Law
- In the event that another European country might decide to formulate a law on psychotherapy that would hopefully not be too restrictive and that would incorporate the EAP model, the concept of developing a 'template' for such a law was developed.
- The template was written by Dr Alfred Pritz and Albina Colden in early 2008.
- The challenge was to formulate a clear outline (template) for a national psychotherapy law and at the same time allow enough flexibility to take the specific requirements of each country into consideration. The idea was to be able to use this text as a possible template in countries where the psychotherapy profession is not yet regulated. It is then up to the relevant National Organisations to re-formulate it and make it suitable for the situation in their country and to use it for negotiations with governmental officers in charge of psychotherapy in ministries and other official bodies. It is written in a language that is understandable for non-psychotherapists.
- The Template for a National Psychotherapy Law document was accepted by the EAP Board in Vienna, February 21st, 2009; and amended by the Board, in Lisbon, July 1, 2009. A copy of this document is available, as a download in PDF format, here.
